Epimedium  grandiflorum

The "big-flowered" Epimedium grandiflorum comes from Japan.

Phillip Franz von Siebold brought her to Europe in 1830.
Until then, there was only one Epimedium known and that was a rather unremarkable small-flowered species (E. alpinum).

Epimedium grandiflorum is a very variable species and there are many different cultivars from Japan.
She is also involved in several important crosses (E. x rubrum, E. x versicolor, E. x youngianum).

The flower color varies from white and creamy white to pink, rose-violet and purple, depending on the variety.

Epimedium grandiflorum is a deciduous perennial.
This has the great advantage that you do not have to cut back the old leaves in spring.

It's native to Japan (Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku), North Korea and Northeast China.

Very floriferous.

The apple green foliage contrasts well with the flowers.

Height 40 cm.

Origin Japan.

Unfortunately, it grows very slowly, making it a real treasure.

(It is possible that the cultivar name should be 'Akagi Zakura' or even 'Akagi Sakura' meaning "red cherry blossom')
